The Quest, Part 6: The Stone

Cai was in the lead of the group, yet again, when he came across a large cave. A trail of owl feathers lead him inside. Far back in the cave, a large red stone was imbedded in the floor of the cavern. It was glowing as bright as sunlight, and, as Cai looked at it, he fell to his knees, suddenly unable to move. He felt as if the life was being drained right out of him.

John was folowing closely behind Cai, He was in his wolf form as he prefered it and it helped him keep track of his suroundings. "Cai!" He barked as he saw his friend fall to his knees, John ran upto him but stopped dead in his tracks as his eyes locked with the glowing red stone. the next thing he knew he was on the ground writhing in pain, He was changing back to his human for but it felt different this time, It felt... Painfull and unnatural.

Hikari gasped. "W-What's going on!?" She said, and then looked at the stone. A few seconds later she collapsed as well.

As Hikari collapsed, the stone was engulfed in fire for a moment, then it settled back to normal.

Casey had casually walked into the cave behind the others, although in his strange walk there was a sense of paranoia and caution. He had been expecting all sorts of things: strange creatures, another illusion or two, even the occasional infliction of pain, yet nothing had happened... yet. That was when he saw the others fall almost simultaneously to their knees in what seemed like complete agony. What in the world? "Guys!" He ran up to each one of them with a look of sheer terror on his face. "What's wrong? Someone tell me! What's going on?!" He asked each of them. This was horrifying. Each one of his buddies was in obvious pain yet he could do nothing to help. Or.. so he thought.

The stone still glowed in the center of the cavern. Cai's sword had slid slightly out of its sheath across his back when he fell, the shine of the metal half seemed to glow in the stone's light.

A hoot rang out through the cavern. The giant owl sat on top of the stone. "Kill the stone, you must," it said," but fight me, you will."
